In older Accuglide Conveyors, accumulation is guided by mechanical sensing. While this can work fine for larger and consistent packages, in operations which handle smaller, lighter, and more varied orders it is not uncommon for mechanical sensing to cause side-by-sides, product breakage, and other exceptions during sortation.

The Accuglide Accumulation Conveyor was originally developed by Alvey in the 1980s as a means of beverage distribution. Alvey eventually became a member of FKI Logistex, a newly-formed company comprised of Alvey, Buschman, RTS, Crisplant, White Systems, Mathews Conveyor, DAVCO, and SNE Systems.
The chain: As mentioned above, the Accuglide is driven by an RC-50 chain. Over time, this chain can rust, snap, or simply become damaged, effectively shutting down the conveyor until it is replaced.
The heads are usually mounted onto 3M-Matic™ Case Sealers but can also be used in converting other case sealers or in custom equipment. 3M™ Accuglide™ 3 Taping Heads feature a curvilinear design that applies tape securely with low impact to help protect even lightweight cartons and contents.
3M-Matic™ Case Sealers have parts that may wear over time, such as blades, belts, springs and rollers. You can maintain optimal performance with replacement parts made specifically for your model. 3M replacement parts are engineered for rugged duty with steel construction and epoxy-coated surfaces.
Each operating manual details available parts and recommended maintenance procedures. Most 3M-Matic™ Case Sealers are basic machines, and there are a few wear parts that need periodic replacement depending on usage, including drive belts and taping head blades to cut the tape.
The short answer is that it depends on how you're packaging your product today. 3M-Matic™ Case Sealers can tape boxes for shipment and replace hand taping. Shifting to a flap-folding machine removes the need for an operator to fold the top flaps and present the box to the case sealer.
