Sep 22, 2005 . I don't know how much the air dam effects mileage (though I suspect they do), but I can say that they effect handling. In the past, I have had several Corvairs, and (despite a certain lawyer, who doesn't drive) they are very quick responding, great handling cars - - - as long as the air dam is in place.

Mar 14, 2019 . The ORG Aero mode that is the lowest height we can drive in is 1/2" higher than the standard truck height and it doesn't have the active air dam to go lower. If the active air dam drops down another 1 1/2" to 2" then without it, my fixed air dam is riding 2" to 2 1/2" higher defeating the purpose of reducing air resistance for better MPGs.

The air dam minimizes the air flowing underneath the car, reducing the drag. It also increases downforce by limiting the air pressure underneath the car. As it draws more air to the radiator, the air dam also makes engine cooling easier. Essentially, air …

IIRC, maintaining tire air pressure or slightly increasing it came in first, air dams came in second, to actually increase MPG. The closer the air dam was to the road surface, the better it worked. Likely why the F150 2wd has a easily noticed larger air dam. Expected to be off road rarely, not needing the ground clearance of the 4x4.

Adding another foot of air dam on the bottom would give you a 4 x 9 foot sheet of plywood. 32 ft 2 vs 36 ft 2 of frontal area says no increase in mileage.

Jul 09, 2018 . Without having those issues to deal with, designing for the front is much easier. Splitters and Air Dams. So where to start first? Since we’re dealing with production-based cars, let’s talk splitters and air dams. The splitter is a common, effective, and very efficient way to make a healthy amount of downforce.

May 23, 2009 . For the air dam I was going to fabricate just a straight extension off the factory spoiler down another 4-6" out of some 5/16" poly that I use on race cars under the body as a rub point before the real aero bottoms out (at a much higher expense).

Front Air Dam. A Front air dam is used to prevent air from flowing underneath a vehicle. It does this by creating a “dam” or wall across the front of the vehicle that extends close down to the road and usually along the sides to some extent. This creates an area of vacuum or low pressure underneath the car as shown in diagram AD4 below.

The function of the Air Dam is to deflect the oncoming air. It forces maximum air to go over the top of the vehicle and allows only a minimal quantity of air to pass underneath the vehicle. Generally, Sports cars and Supercars feature both the Airdams and front splitters. Also, you can find them on high-speed motorcycles too.
Front Air Dam Effects. A well-designed front air dam will keep the nose steady and pointed at the ground in high speed driving. This would give the driver more confidence to control the vehicle in sustained high speed driving environments.
Any thoughts? An air dam works by shielding the rough underside of the typical vehicle from the wind, so it needs to be as low as the lowest stuff (axles, suspension, etc.) hanging down under your vehicle's frame.
Air Dam vs Spoiler: The Air Dam is fitted at the bottom of a car’s nose or front bumper. It directs the flow of air around the car instead of under it. The manufacturers term the airflow which goes underneath the car as the ‘underflow’. It is highly turbulent and also consumes more energy. Thus, it affects the vehicle’s fuel economy as well.
