Set Up Your Echo Dot. Plug in your device and open the Alexa app to start setup. Tip: Before setup, check that you have the latest version of the Alexa app in your device's app store. To set up the device in the Alexa app: Select the Devices icon . Select the + icon. Follow the instructions to set up the device.
Open the Amazon Alexa app from the app drawer or home screen. Sign in to your Amazon account. Once you're logged in, select the horizontal bars on the top left corner of the screen to pull up the menu. Tap Add Device. Select Amazon Echo from the list. Choose the Echo device you're setting up. Select the generation of the Echo device.
Some Echo-compatible products include the WeMo Light Switch and the GE Link wireless smart connected LED light bulb. Other electronics and appliances can also be controlled using the Amazon Echo if they are plugged in to smart outlets and switches. Through voice commands, users can switch the devices on or off.
The Echo Dot was free on Amazon for a hot minute. It’s now either sold out or Amazon is fixing a bug. The Echo Dot, Amazon's $50 in-home assistant, was briefly free on Amazon today, thanks to an "Audible" discount that got added at checkout.
