Bike frames that are made out of carbon fiber tend to be used for higher-end bikes. Carbon fiber is a blend of carbon sheets that are bonded together with resin in a mold. This is what gives the bike frame a lightweight feel. Thanks to their low density, carbon frames absorb more road vibrations, making you feel more in control when riding.

Pre-preg sheets are used to produce monocoque frames. The sheets are cut to shape and layered around a core. A frame may use hundreds of individual pieces. This is then placed inside a mould and cured at high temperature and pressure. The core is commonly a removable inflatable bladder which applies internal pressure during the cure.

Bike frames were originally made from wood, but modern frames are made primarily from aluminum, steel, titanium and carbon fiber. Some of the less common materials used in creating frames include bamboo, thermoplastics and magnesium. Bicycle frames constructed from the more common frame materials can be seen in Figure 2.

The information might also come in handy for deciphering other makes because the factories in Taiwan make bikes for a lot of different companies. I am tinkering around with the idea of starting to make my own frames, kind of on a "one-off" basis. I am also teaching welding at a local community college.

You probably know that a bicycle frame is the main piece of a bike onto which other components, like wheels, are attached. Modern bike frame designs consist of two triangles: there’s a main one and a rear triangle.
Use of carbon fibre is different in terms of types and places on the bike. Most significantly, this blending process is essential to create a high performance and durable carbon fibre bike frame. Bike manufacturers are using carbon fibre on their frames for mainly two reasons.
Common materials for frame There are a wide variety of materials used in bicycle frames. Bike frames were originally made from wood, but modern frames are made primarily from aluminum, steel, titanium and carbon fiber. Some of the less common materials used in creating frames include bamboo, thermoplastics and magnesium.
Frames are required to be strong, stiff and light, which they do by combining different materials and shapes. A frameset consists of the frame and front fork of a bicycle and sometimes includes the headset and seat post. Frame builders will often produce the frame and fork together as a paired set.
You probably know that a bicycle frame is the main piece of a bike onto which other components, like wheels, are attached. Modern bike frame designs consist of two triangles: there’s a main one and a rear triangle.
There are basically four main types of bike frame materials from which to choose: carbon fiber, titanium, aluminum, and steel. To choose the best material for your frame, you ultimately want to ensure that it’ll be durable and strong, but there are other factors to consider.
MTB frames will usually be heavy to make them more durable, especially because the goal of these bikes isn’t to achieve speed, as in the case of road bikes.
After all, bikepacking doesn’t rely on a frame having eyelets for racks and panniers, as with other styles of bike touring. Alternatively, scour the classifieds for a second hand, modern cross country hardtail, as they're affordable, fun to ride, and offer maximum frame space for carrying gear.
