The B&W Formation Duo wireless speakers use a mesh network to ensure wireless transmission of audio streams in high resolution up to 24-bit/96kHz. Bowers & Wilkins, more commonly known under the acronym B&W, was named after founders John Bowers and Roy Wilkins.
The B&W Formation Duo will. By size alone, the speakers could be mistaken for high-quality bookshelf speakers, but they can’t be compared to that class of speakers. After extended listening, I can happily report that this is one of the finest set of loudspeakers I have heard, regardless of price.
While it is perfectly possible to argue that the Wedge is a lifestyle product, one look at the Duo should be enough to establish that this is a rather more serious proposition. The Duo is effectively where the Formation range dovetails with the more serious offerings from Bowers & Wilkins in the form of the 700 and 800 Series.
Both Spotify Connect and Apple Airplay 2 are built in, so the Formation Duo speakers will appear in Spotify and (if using an Apple device) most other streaming apps.
The dedicated B&W Duo stands (£699) aren’t cheap, but they complete the look beautifully. Once bolted to the grey-bottomed Duos, it’s difficult to tell where the stand begins and the speaker ends. They can be mass loaded with sand to improve stability. Hardware is only half of the equation where streaming is concerned, with software also crucial.

The carbon dome tweeters are from adapted from the 705s and, of course, decoupled from the main cabinet to help reduce vibration interference from the mid/bass unit below. That mid/bass has been redesigned to work within a sealed cabinet, as there are no reflex ports on the B&W Duo.
