BuxComm a bad experience! - craigwilliams.com

There are a lot of BALUN's built with PVC pipe and end caps like this product. All I have seen at least use an eye bolt and nut and washer combination as the strain relief point for your wire. Not BuxComm. Both the BALUN and 450 ohm terminator have small wood screw eye hooks screwed into the PVC end caps!

Nov 01, 2009 . I feed the BALUN with rg8-x coax from the tuner. The tuner is a Palstar AT1500DT. I actually only need the tuner on 160m, 17m and 15m,but use it just to be safe when using the Ameritron al80b on all other bands. Rig is a KW TS2000. Antenna is set up as a flat top at 30-35 ft. No amp for 6m.

I purchased two black diamond BALUNs from buxcomm. One for use on a windom and one for a full sized 80 meter loop. The BALUN I used for the loop lasted less than two days running 120 watts on it's resonant frequency. My swr climbed sky high and the only fix was removing the BAD BALUN.

This review is specific to the Buxcomm Model 2K11 1:1 current BALUN. Specs. are 2.0 kW @ 2:1 VSWR. My BALUN failed after several hours of RF applied from a 500 W SSB linear. Rather than return the BALUN I decided to open it to find the mode of failure. It consists of about 11 inches of OEM RG-8X coax, 95-14400, enclosed in six ferrite beads, 1 ...

BUXCOMM BALUNs should be installed at the antenna feed point, or where the coax or feed-line attaches to the above ground antenna. BUX BALUNs are used to connect balanced antennas to unbalanced transmission lines, such as coax cable.

"Your BALUN and ladder line easily handles the awesome AM power of my classic Collins KW-1 transmitter. Signal reports support the dipole as the better performer than my old trusty full wave delta loop and now I don't need a tuner! Members of our Florida AM Group are interested in my results. Tnx for Fb products." --Dave, W2ORL

Jan 20, 2011 . You can learn a lot by cutting some wire and attaching insulators! I just built myself a 40m windom this past summer (with a Buxcomm center insulator/BALUN, eek!) and have been exceedingly pleased with the results, especially considering the haphazard …

Feb 15, 2017 . So we took the Buxcomm antenna which was the model 80 thru 6 meters, attached the rope to the very solid eye bold at the top of the BALUN, and up the tower. This model had the 3 KW BALUN. When attaching wire to trees, we've found that the wire is …

Although not necessary, a 1:1 isolation/choke BALUN (models, 1110, 1113, 1115 etc.) at the transmitter end of feedline will stop RF from entering your equipment and reduce receiver noise caused by common mode currents. See Buxcomm isolator and BALUN Designs isolation/choke BALUN.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How tall does a balun have to be to get RF off of coax?

The higher it goes, the more the impedance rises, so the BALUN must change with it. There are a few web sites with the exact impedance at each height. At the 20 feet you have, the impedance might be low enough to use a simple 1:1 to get RF off of the coax. Thanks, Joe! Page edited December 3, 2013: Improvements to formatting and readability.

  • How many baluns are needed for a Windom antenna?

This point comes closer to being a 240 ohm feedpoint, and since we adapted the windom for coax feed, we now use a 1 to 4 ratio BALUN to match the 50 ohm coaxial cable to the approximately 200 ohm antenna feed-point. With the use of our Windom antenna, many customers will order the 6:1 BALUN because a friend told them to do so.

  • How are the legs attached to the balun?

We attached the legs to the BALUN, attached insulators to the ends of the wire, and one insulator for the middle of the long leg that can free slide on the wire. We needed this as a support point where that leg makes a bend at the lot line and changes directions approx 40 degrees towards a tree in the front yard.
