Common degrees of CAMBER on a manual wheelchair range from 0° to 8° with the most common selections for an everyday wheelchair ranging from 0-3°. CAMBER in sport wheelchairs can be upwards of 15°, or even more. Depending on the wheelchair there are different ways CAMBER is applied, if it can be applied at all.

Oct 10, 2018 . Zero static CAMBER would result in even tire wear, but would likely impact cornering performance, because dynamic CAMBER varies, depending on vehicle speed, roll, and G-forces. Because of this dynamic change, most street vehicles have at least some negative CAMBER, even more for performance cars. The harder you take a turn, the more the tire rolls, so zero CAMBER becomes …

CAMBER uses outside vials and reads in 1/4º. Turn wheels 20º to R & L of center when setting caster w. vial type gauges. Find a level place to set up your front end. Attach the gauge to the spindle. If you have a magnetic adaptor be sure that the surface you attach to is machined square to the spindle and doesn't have any nicks or burrs.

If the top of the wheel is angled in towards the wheelchair and the bottom of the wheel is further away, we know there is a certain amount of CAMBER applied to the wheel. Common degrees of CAMBER on a manual wheelchair range from 0° to 8° with the most common selections for an everyday wheelchair ranging from 0-3°.

Sports cars may have a lot of negative CAMBER on all four wheels, up to for better cornering. Formula 1 cars may run greater than -3.0° CAMBER on the front tires, and -1.0° CAMBER on the rear tires, which gives them straight-line acceleration and better cornering traction.
On double-wishbone and multi-link independent suspensions, these may be used to move the upper or lower control arms. On McPherson strut suspensions, they may be used to adjust the lower control arm or the steering knuckle.
Adjustment of caster and CAMBER is carried out by adding or subtracting shims between the upper control arm shaft and the frame bracket. CAMBER is adjusted by adding or subtracting shims from both the front and rear of the shaft. Adding shims decreases positive CAMBER.
Setting the CAMBER. Setting the CAMBER is a much easier process. Rest the straight edge against the outside of your front tire (making sure both wheels are pointing straight and you are touching the same part of the tire, top and bottom). The top of the straight edge should lean inward for negative CAMBER.
