Frequently Asked Questions

  • What should the camber be on a manual wheelchair?

If the top of the wheel is angled in towards the wheelchair and the bottom of the wheel is further away, we know there is a certain amount of CAMBER applied to the wheel. Common degrees of CAMBER on a manual wheelchair range from 0° to 8° with the most common selections for an everyday wheelchair ranging from 0-3°.

  • Which is part of the wheel adjusts camber?

  • What kind of Camber does a sports car have?

Sports cars may have a lot of negative CAMBER on all four wheels, up to for better cornering. Formula 1 cars may run greater than -3.0° CAMBER on the front tires, and -1.0° CAMBER on the rear tires, which gives them straight-line acceleration and better cornering traction.

  • What kind of suspension do you use on Camber liveabout?

On double-wishbone and multi-link independent suspensions, these may be used to move the upper or lower control arms. On McPherson strut suspensions, they may be used to adjust the lower control arm or the steering knuckle.

  • How do you adjust camber and caster?

Adjustment of caster and CAMBER is carried out by adding or subtracting shims between the upper control arm shaft and the frame bracket. CAMBER is adjusted by adding or subtracting shims from both the front and rear of the shaft. Adding shims decreases positive CAMBER.

  • How do you set camber?

Setting the CAMBER. Setting the CAMBER is a much easier process. Rest the straight edge against the outside of your front tire (making sure both wheels are pointing straight and you are touching the same part of the tire, top and bottom). The top of the straight edge should lean inward for negative CAMBER.
