The Camtraptions sensor is pretty much like any other off the shelf PIR with the addition of a small built in controller to trigger the camera shutter to fire when the sensor detects movement. The sensors are available in wired and a wireless versions that are compatible with Camtraptions wireless triggers. Configuration options are through DIP switches and rotary dials on the front of the sensor. Modifications will take some experimenting to make sure the sensor is acting as you want.

This device works well with either Alkaline batteries or NiMH rechargeable batteries. Adjustable sensitivity helps limit false detections.
Solar radiation with PIR sensors is the most common problem with remote camera photography. PIR sensors are sensitive to changes in heat and shadows create situations where the sensor might interpret the change as a movement. Moving Leaves:Leaf movement will cause a sensor to detect movement and trigger the camera.
