Lots of rooms in a compact space: the second floor of a Cape Cod home boasts a lot of living into a compact space. Some Capes have up to 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms in just a 1000-square foot home. This makes them an excellent (and affordable) starter family home.
The final town to be established on the Cape was Bourne in 1884, breaking off from Sandwich. Provincetown was a group of huts until the 18th century. A channel from Massachusetts Bay to Buzzards Bay is shown on Southack's map of 1717. The present Cape Cod Canal was slowly developed from 1870 to 1914. The federal government purchased it in 1928.
Cape Cod is the home of the Cape Cod Cubs, a new junior league hockey team that is based out of Hyannis at the new community center being built on Bearses Way. The end of each summer is marked with the running of the Falmouth Road Race, held on the third Saturday in August.
Many businesses specifically target summer visitors, although the "on season" has been expanding somewhat in recent years due to Indian Summer, reduced lodging rates, the number of people visiting the Cape after Labor Day who have no school-age children, and the elderly—reducing the true "off season" to six or seven months.
You’ll need to cross a productive fishery just to get onto Cape Cod – the Cape Cod Canal. Then, a whole world of fishing opens up. You’ll find prized fish on all sides of this stunning cape, with thousands of anglers getting out on the water daily. There’s even the addition of some freshwater fishing grounds, as you can see above.
That’s the great thing about fishing Cape Cod: it’s an adventure every time and a great feeling to find fish in a spot you’ve never fished after doing the work to determine it has potential. “Fall brings more blues and albies, plus the possibility of blitz fishing as bass feed for the migration south.
There are plenty of Cape Cod fishing enthusiasts who are happy to show you the ropes of fishing for Sharks, thanks to the numerous species that come by throughout the year. Target Porbeagle Sharks nearshore whenever you want, while Threshers come close from June through October.
Along its lengthy coastline, Cape Cod provides traveling schools of striped bass everything they need to feed, rest, and prepare for their next migration phase. Salt ponds, flats, estuaries, bays, inlets, jetties, and offshore currents hold a variety of striped bass prey species over the course of the summer.
