The lift is fitted with a hinged door which can be either manually operated, or as an option, power operated. In both cases the door can only be unlocked electrically when the lift is at a recognised floor level (if the lift is not at a floor level emergency opening can be effected using the key provided).
Both the lift user and the agency responsible for the funding of maintenance should be made aware of the need for regular maintenance by Engineers correctly trained to work on that particular item of equipment. The Wessex VM Home Lift should be checked and serviced at 6 monthly intervals, this is in accordance British Standards recommendations.
Position the arms to the vehicle manufacturer’s recommended pickup points. Raise the lift until contact is made with the vehicle. Make sure that the arms have properly engaged the vehicle before raising the lift to a working height.
If you want to install a typical 2-post or 4-post lift in your garage, you need a ceiling that's higher than 11 feet . While you can get a 2- or 4-post lift that works with a lower ceiling, almost all these lifts are not ANSI certified. This means there's no official validation of either their capabilities or their safety.
All the two-post hoists we looked at require a 220-volt, single-phase power supply with a minimum of a 30-amp circuit. Keep in mind that most home garages are not equipped with 220-volt service, which will add to the cost of installation.
