• Is the c.a.r.e.dog owner's manual downloadable?

  The C.A.R.E. Dog Owner's Manual is a collection of the information that we hand out to new adopters. Included in this downloadable PDF is a number of informative articles gathered from numerous sources to help you with your new family member.

• Can a child handle a dog training kit?

  Do not allow children, or anyone who has little to no experience with training dogs, to handle this training kit. In order to guarantee normal diving function, please insert the waterproof rubber lid over the charging port. Static stimulation is not a pleasant experience for any dogs.

• Can a dog book for attorneys be distributed?

  Permission is hereby granted to attorneys practicing in the field of child welfare and to educational and nonprofit institutions to reproduce and distribute for educational purposes all or part of the work if the copies are distributed at or below cost and credit the Judicial Council of California.

• When is the second edition of the dog book?

  Second edition 2011. Third edition 2017. Except as permitted under the Copyright Act of 1976, no part of this publica- tion may be reproduced in any form or by any means, whether electronic, online, or mechanical, including the use of information storage and retrieval systems, without permission in writing from the copyright owner.

• Is the National detector dog training center open to the public?

  Several organizations have recognized the National Detector Dog Training Center for its work rescuing dogs and giving them a second chance. If you would like to donate a dog, please contact us at 1 (877) 797-3899 or [email protected] . The Center is not open to the public.

• What are the requirements for a detector dog?

  The dogs must be friendly and bold; have a high food drive; and be healthy. We test recruited dogs in a real inspection environment to expose them to the sights, sounds, smells, surfaces, and equipment they would encounter there. The dogs also receive a physical exam from a veterinarian.

• What's the retirement age for a detector dog?

  A successful detector dog can have a career that spans 6 to 8 years, or up to the mandatory retirement age of nine. Upon retirement, some dogs live with their last handler as a personal pet. Otherwise, the Center will offer the dog for adoption. When dogs do not meet our training requirements, we offer them for adoption as well.
