Both, the shorter 21 items version as well as the longer 42 items versions of the Dass are available. The Dass-21 contains seven items for each of the three subscales. The Dass-42 contains fourteen per scale. The items are answered on 4-point likert scales.
Originally developed by Syd Lovibond and Peter Lovibond at the University of New South Wales in 1995, the Dass-21 is a quantitative measure of distress. It examines three separate, but interrelated areas: depression, anxiety, and stress. Each of the three subscales includes seven items.
