ddb - OpenBSD manual pages

The DDB debugger provides a means for debugging the kernel, and analysing the kernel after a system crash ("panic"), with a gdb(1)-like syntax. DDB is invoked upon a kernel panic when the sysctl(8) DDB.panic is set to 1. It may be invoked from the console when the sysctl DDB.console is set to 1, using any of the following methods:

Manually Recovering the Deduplication Database

You can recover an invalid deduplication database (DDB) by manually reconstructing the DDB. A manual recovery process with the default settings recovers the DDB from the last DDB backup. If both the DDB and the DDB backup are also detected as invalid, then both the Last DDB Backup Job Id and the Last DDB Backup Time stamp are reset. You must run a full reconstruction of the DDB.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How does the DDB function in Excel work?

The Excel DDB function returns the depreciation of an asset for a given period using the double-declining balance method or another method you specify by changing the factor argument.

  • Do you have to run a full reconstruction of the DDB?

You must run a full reconstruction of the DDB. The full reconstruction process deletes the existing DDB content, reads the entire data on the disk, and re-creates a new DDB from the deduplicated data read on the disk. This process can be time-consuming because the full disk is read during the recovery operation.

  • How do I recover from the last DDB backup?

A manual recovery process with the default settings recovers the DDB from the last DDB backup. If both the DDB and the DDB backup are also detected as invalid, then both the Last DDB Backup Job Id and the Last DDB Backup Time stamp are reset. You must run a full reconstruction of the DDB.

  • When to use the change factor in DDB?

Change factor if you do not want to use the double-declining balance method. Use the VDB function if you want to switch to the straight-line depreciation method when depreciation is greater than the declining balance calculation.
