We will now tell you how expand your DVR size by connecting an external hard drive to your DVR. Buy an external hard drive that's compatible with your DVR receiver. Buy an eSata cable to go with the external hard drive. Unplug the DVR receiver from the wall outlet. Place the external hard drive in a convenient place next to the DVR.
Since recording bitrates are variable (and are largely controlled by the broadcaster, cable, or satellite provider), the amount of space any given recording will take up can vary greatly. If you find that you need to add more space to your DVR, consider adding a TiVo-certified external storage device. For information, see DVR Expander FAQ.
To select a different recording quality at the time you schedule a recording, choose Options and then choose the quality setting you would like to use for that recording. You can also change the recording quality for recordings you have already scheduled by selecting the program from the To Do List and then selecting Options.
I received a letter and email from Comcast informing me the my DVR is changing - reducing the number of channels that can be recorded at one time from 6 down to 2 and and an artificial limit on saved recorded hours. This kicks in end of May 2021. After years why this change - artificially reducing the capabilities that we have enjoyed.
