The first time you select a 1080p program, your receiver will automatically perform a resolution test to check for the correct TV resolution. Your TV must be connected to your receiver with an HDMI cable. If your TV does not support 1080p, the receiver will automatically display the program in the highest resolution supported by your TV.

Answer (1 of 2): DIRECTV offers 1080P movies with their on demand service. You must have a DVR with them and it must be hooked up to your highspeed internet service. Select on demand from the menu section; it will state 1080 on the movies available in 1080P.

Ch. 125 used to be movie trailers broadcasted in 1080P for years (and was widely used to test 1080P capability on TV's), until AT&T changed that quite a while ago and is basically a VOD format now. Since your setup is a Genie with clients and no other types of HD IRD's, it is not as easy for you to see that since the Native option was removed from your choices (unlike the rest of us still have on …

Oct 22, 2008 . I have a Sony Bravia model KDL52W3000 that supports 1080p. I have an HR21-700 hooked up to it (hdmi) with it set to native. My receiver received the forced download of 0290 and I noticed that under the HDTV menu for resolutions, that 1080p is available, but when I check off that option, it goes dark, and then comes back to tell me that my tv does not accept DIRECTV's 1080p …

Nov 15, 2008 . It is true that right now DIRECTV only does 1080p/24. If the TV only does 1080p/60, there is no workaround. It was speculated that the Broadcom chipset in the HR2x receivers cannot decode/output 1080/60. So that could be a major limitation. To my knowledge, there is nothing confirming that at this point, but we do know that only 1080p/24 is ...

Sep 03, 2007 . Because my TV is a 720p set (768p to be exact), I don't want 720p signals (FOX, ESPN, ABC, etc.) up-converted to 1080i then down-converted to 768p which is what would happen with native off and set for 1080i. This way everything gets converted to 720p on the H20, then up-converted to 768p by the TV.

I have a DIRECTV Genie HR54-700 and for the last couple of weeks anytime a program is paused for more than a minute it loses Dolby Digital and switches to PCM. It does this with both live and recorded programs. The only way to get DD back is to either change the channel or go the audio settings in the menus and switch Dolby off then back on.

As you’d expect, TVs know what resolution they’re displaying. But they generally won’t tell you. Most TVs don’t have an option to check whether you’re watching something in 4K, 1080p, or any other resolution. You’ll need to understand what content is available instead.
Look for descriptions that include the following: HD Ready, 720P (progressive scan) and 1280 x 720. For the higher resolution HD, look for Full HD, FHD, 1080i (interlaced scan), 1080P (progressive scan) and 1920 x 1080.

The “i” stands for “interlaced,” which means the image on your screen flickers between every other line, and the “p” stands for “progressive,” which means the image constantly uses every line on...
There are different HDR formats, and you may see some companies advertise 4k HDR, but just because a TV supports it doesn't mean that HDR looks good. However, the large majority of 1080p TVs don't even support HDR, so if you want to watch your favorite HDR content, go for a 4k TV.
