Nov 20, 2012 . Receiver hangs entering diagnostic mode. HD DVR receiver stopped working. Reset, attempted to enter Diagnostic Mode. It will reach the screen "Entering Diagnostic Mode" and go no further. On a previous attempt it scanned the drive and purported to find and fix 146 errors, but then started all over again. Am I looking at getting a new receiver?

Nov 18, 2011 . When doing a receiver reset, on the screen that says "Running Receiver Self Check", press the select button on the remote. The receiver will then show "Entering Diagnostics Mode..." and bring up the guided test menu. It also does the same thing on my other receivers, H21 and D11.

Depending on the model of your DVR, you should be able to find it under >DIRECTV>Messages and Setup>Restart or Reset System>Clear and delete Everything. You may lose your local channels but they. To answer your question: If you remove the old drive and install a new one and then power on, the HR20 will format the drive and get it ready to record.

Jul 03, 2015 . The DVR can't be reactivated by you and can't used for anything other than DIRECTV, so you cannot use it to record over-the-air TV or cable TV like a TiVo. I would say that it isn't worth keeping. Since the recordings you want to keep are in 3D, there is unfortunately no way to make copies by re-recording them with an HDMI capture device.
