An Omada software controller or EAP Discovery Utility uses the ports on the host, while an Omada hardware controller uses the ports on its own hardware. Ports fall into two groups: TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) ports and UDP (User Datagram Protocol) ports.
The Controller Host and the EAPs are connected to the switch's different network segments. To help EAPs find the Controller Host, EAP Discover Utility should be installed on Host B which is in the same subnet with the EAPs. For how to use EAP Discovery Utility, refer to 1.3 Inform the EAPs the Controller Host's Address.
• If you know the IP address of the EAP, you can login to the EAP via the IP address. For the detailed steps, refer to Method 2: Log in via the IP Address of the EAP • If login still fails, reset the EAP device to its factory default settings and try again.
A: It is not recommended to manage your EAP network by Omada Controller wirelessly. Because the Omada Controller will issue all the settings to the EAP devices after they are adopted. For example, if the SSID or security mode configurations change, the wireless connection will be broken and then you may need to reconnect to it again.
If your Omada Controller and EAPs are in different subnets, refer to the following topology. A router acts as the gateway of the network. A layer 3 switch acts as a DHCP server to assign IP addresses to EAPs and clients. The Controller Host and the EAPs are connected to the switch's different network segments.
To help EAPs find the Controller Host, Omada Discover Utility should be installed on Host B which is in the same subnet with the EAPs. For how to use Omada Discovery Utility, refer to Inform the EAPs of the Controller Host’s Address.
A: EAPs can run in the standalone mode without the controller. But some functions, like Captive Portal and scheduled operations which depend on the Omada Controller. So if you use these functions, you need to keep the EAP Controller running. Q9: Can EAP controller manage EAPs in different subnets?
