Dec 06, 2008 . There is no assembly manual, just the Motorola Engineering Bulletin #EB-104, which of course is public domain so you can download it and look at it to your heart's content. I've never had any problem getting these to work just fine, but always had to put quite a lot of extra money into those parts they don't provide.

The only difficult component to obtain for the power supply is the transformer. Like others who have built the Eb104 amplifier, I purchased the transformer from Ameritron, part number 406-1246. The color codes shown in the circuit diagram are for this transformer, but any high current 50 volt transformer will work.

As I understand it the Motorola Eb104 circuit was never meant to be a production ready design. Instead Helge Granberg, the Motorola Circuits Engineer that authored the Eb104 Engineering Bulletin was touting the benefits of their MRF150 Power FET over bipolar transistors for HF push-pull/parallel based power amplification applications.
The amplifier runs of 50V and with 600W out will need about 1000W in, ie 50V at 20A. To power this an ELTEK brand new power supply off Ebay but sold by Anchor Surplusin Nottingham is ideal. It is nicely protected and can be started up by a 5V control line.
The experience with the EB 104 started about 2 years ago; the first test have been done only with one module, the results were not very good. The T3 trransformer were not matching correctly the impedance. The output power stays almost the same with the same current and this confirm that there were impedance matching problems.
Eb104 was written in 1983 and Granberg’s design principles are still being used today by many commercial Ham radio amplifier manufacturers, including Ameritron and Tokyo HyPower. Granberg’s design was a starting point for experimentation by amateurs and also by commercial Ham radio amplifier manufacturers.
