Put in grounding posts. To install electric fencing, you need at least 1 grounding post that is 6 feet (1.8 m) (182.88 cm) or longer. Place 1 grounding rod near the charger and use a post-hole digger/slammer to set the grounding post. Leave at least 2 inches (5.08 cm) of the post above the ground.
The grounding rod for electric fence wire should be around 4 feet long. Drive it into ground directly below the charger, or at the closest point where ground access is available. Drive the grounding rod at least 3 feet into the ground, or all the way in, leaving only 3 to 6 inches exposed above ground level.
Cut a 2 foot piece of wire and attach one end to the electric output screw on the electric fence charger. Attach the other end of the wire to the electric fence wire to be charged by wrapping it around it several times. Hook your electric fence charger up to power. For an AC plug-in fence charger, plug in the fence charger to a standard 110V outlet.

Connect insulated cable to the negative ground terminal on your fence charger. Insert a copper ground rod into the ground about 10 feet from the fencing energizer, leaving about 2 inches of rod sticking out of the ground. Attach the other end of the insulated cable to the copper ground rod using a ground clamp.
