Household bleach can be used to get rid of mold in a washing machine. Wipe down the inside of the washing machine with bleach to get rid of mold. Using powdered detergents may help prevent front-load washer mold. Liquid detergents are often a common cause of mold in front-load machines.
To clean a top loader, run a normal wash cycle (on hot) and place 1/2 cup bicarbonate of soda and 2 cups white vinegar in, once the machine has filled with water. Let it run as usual.
GE is manufactured in the US and is owned by the Chinese Haier company. Electrolux is made in Mexico whereas Whirlpool and their Maytag label are also produced in the US. Both brands have very different washers but you should buy Whirlpool or Electrolux depending on your particular needs.
