Abstract Context: The Foot and Ankle Ability Measure (FAAM) is a region-specific, non–disease-specific outcome instrument that possesses many of the clinimetric qualities recommended for an outcome instrument. Evidence of validity to support the use of the FAAM is available in individuals with a wide array of ankle and foot disorders.
The FAAM is a self-report measure that assesses physical function of individuals with lower leg, foot, and ankle musculoskeletal disorders. 2) Sports subscale of 8 items. For each subscale patients are asked to answer each question with a single response that most clearly describes their condition within the past week.
The FAAM also asks the patient to note their current level of function as “normal”, “nearly normal”, “abnormal”, and “severely abnormal”. When scoring the FAAM, there should be two scores, one for each subscale. In order to score the ADL subscale and the Sports subscale, 20/21 items and 7/8 items must be completed, respectively.
The FAM (generally policy) and the FAHs (generally procedures) together convey codified information to Department staff and contractors so they can carry out their responsibilities in accordance with statutory, executive and Department mandates.

Originally published in 2005 in Foot and Ankle International, the Foot and Ankle Ability Measure (FAAM) was developed to assess the physical function of individuals with musculoskeletal disorders of the leg, foot, and ankle.
Four ‘pain-related’ items of the Foot and Ankle Disability Index and the ability of an individual to sleep are deleted. The Sports subscale of the FAAM remains the same as the FADI Sports subscale. Each item is scored on a 5-point Likert scale (4 to 0) from ‘no difficulty at all’ to ‘unable to do’.
Evidence of validity to support the use of the FAAM is available in individuals with a wide array of ankle and foot disorders. However, additional evidence to support the use of the FAAM for those with chronic ankle instability (CAI) is needed. Objective:
