I was reading a Feathercraft assembly manual and noticed that apparently their ribs are made from injected polycarbonate. It turns out that this material, while both rigid and lightweight, can be compromised by the manufacturing process as well as exposure to UV light and salt water. Salt water is an accelerant for the stress fractures.

Feathercraft kayaks are at home in the Arctic. I have been paddling Feathercrafts for many years in the Arctic. There certainly are tricks and quirks about building them, maintaining them on an expedition, and storing them. The manual suggests a 45-minute time for assembly.

Nice Feathrcraft Rocket. 12 foot. 1956 Mark 30 starts and runs well, pumps water. Manual start. Has auto bilge pump and remote trim tabs. Comes with extra prop and cone. New wheel bearings and fenders for trailer which is included. Just trailed 400 miles back from northern Wisconsin. Sold "as is". Local pick up only. Has not been registered since 2012.

We have two of the legendary Feathercraft kayaks. They are inflatable, folding, lightweight, durable, rigid sit-on-top kayaks. Both kayaks are in excellent condition. The red one has had very little use.
