The 250W Ferm has better reviews for the lower cost machines and has an extra 100W compared with the cheaper versions. After an afternoon I think the Ferm is nearly a 5 star machine, easily able to resharpen wood, bolster and cold chisels as well as various blades.
This bgm1020 grinder is provided with a coarse and fine grinding disk. The coarse grinding disk (on the left) is suitable for the most common steel grinding jobs in combination with chisels, paint scrapers, metal deburring, materials in the form of tubes and strips, etc.

Some buffing machines are built on the same concept as bench grinders except for longer housings and arbors with buffing wheels instead of grinding wheels. Most bench grinders, whether outfitted with 6" or 8" wheels, come ill-equipped from the factory for use in a woodworking shop, thanks to stone wheels that prove too coarse for sharpening fine-cutting tools, clumsy tool rests, and accessories that are inadequate or just not helpful.
These types of grinder machines are commonly used to hand grind various cutting tools and perform other rough grinding. Depending on the grade and bond of the grinding wheel, it may be used for sharpening cutting tools such as tool bits, drill bits, chisels. Alternatively, it may be used to roughly shape metal prior to welding or fitting.
If your grinder lacks an adjustable tool rest, make angled wood blocks to replicate the angle, build a tool-holding jig from our plans [see More Resources, below ], or replace the factory-supplied tool rest with an aftermarket model.
