How to change Verizon FiOS Battery. 1. The first step of replacing your Verizon FiOS battery is to unplug the BBU module from the power supply chain. 2. Open the battery compartment. 3. Disengage the locking tab on the battery connector and unplug it. 4. Disengage the retaining clip that holds the battery in place, as well.
Use a screwdriver to remove the screw securing the access panel. Press the lever on the right side of the Battery Backup Unit (BBU) door. The door swings open from right to left. Remove the screw that secures the access panel. Press down on the release tab on the back of the ONT, then pull down the battery cover.
Slide the new battery into the battery compartment , securing it underneath the retaining clips. Insert the plug connector back into position. If the battery is installed correctly, you'll hear a beep and the battery power and system status lights will be solid green. Replace the battery cover and plug the BBU back into your wall outlet.

Options are big-box home stores, online store or direct from Verizon (link below). It's easy to replace yourself. If you search online, look for "fios battery" or similar. Verizon doesn't come out and replace batteries. In fact, they discontinued the BBU years ago and actively remove them whenever working on Fios installations.
Fios Voice Backup Battery. It's an exact replacement for the current back up battery in your ONT. When you hear a beeping sound coming from your Fios ONT that's an audible alert warning indicating a low battery condition so you'll know it's time to replace the old one with a new battery. Replacement is easy, so order a fresh battery here.
If you have a backup battery, and do not have voice service through Verizon, or if you do not need voice service during a power outage, you can disconnect the battery. The steps to disconnect the battery are the same for all battery backup units.
