Apr 17, 2019 . I started learning on an old GEMMASTA - it would have been 20+ years old but it still turned out a nice, accurate stone. Hall, Graves and Ultra-tec are other well-known brands. VJ only makes the one model but some of the others make several, ranging from a smaller, less-expensive basic model up to flashier and pricier ones.

Jun 21, 2014 . The quill is not the original GEMMASTA and I'm not sure of its brand but it is well-balanced and cuts beautifully. It's set up for competition cutting and was used by its previous owner for many prize winning cuts. The wooden carry box is hand made and everything in it is included. Most of the laps are steel and include a 100, 320, 600 and1200.

The GemMaster is hardly a mast machine, with its unique radial arm that the quill slides along. The machine also has a electric depth gauge (similar to a BW Meter) that tells you how close you are to your desired angle.
