Today, the Hambleton Bard S30 system is used by virtually every homebrewer when kegging home made beer. Most home brew shops today stock and exchange S30 cylinders and all kegs can be fitted with a genuine S30 valve which works perfectly with the S30 cylinders. If you buy a new barrel, make sure it is fitted with a genuine S30 valve (*).
This is due to the cold gas making the metal shrink. If this happens, simply pull off a cup of hot tap water (not boiling), and submerge the valve in the hot water for 30 seconds. If the gas is still escaping, give a quick shot of gas into your barrel and this should allow the valve to re-sit itself in the right place.

In 1975, Douglas Smith and three friends started Hambleton Bard with a view to make the perfect beer kegging system for home brewers. As a curiousity it can be mentioned that Douglas was the "D" in Bard, the other three letters were the initial of each of the other three partners.
