I use a bunch of the regular Hatchbox wood, so I was anxious to try the new colors when they were released recently. First, the bad- in every way, the brown is much, much more plasticky and less woodlike than original Hatchbox wood filament (which is quite woodlike raw, and indistinguishable from natural wood once sanded, stained, and finished).

Q: Hatchbox ABS 3mm filament. I use acetone vapor to smooth other brands of ABS, works fine. But acetone used with Hatchbox ABS 3mm does not work to smooth the 3D prints. Do you add something to your ABS so that is does not work with acetone vapor smoothing??? A: The Acetone smoothing process does vary by brand.

I just weighed an empty Hatchbox spool. Its 245 grams. That’s handy to know, because I can now weigh a partial spool, subtract 245 grams and have a fairly decent estimate of how much filament I have left. Of course other brands of filament will have different spools. If you have any laying around, please weigh one and post the weight here!

The filament has a 1.75mm diameter and an approximately 1,080-foot length when unspooled. For Inland PLA filaments, the manufacturer states that the diameter tolerance for their spools is +/- 0.05mm. Your 3D printer must have nozzles that are capable of handling a higher temperature for building than with Hatchbox PLA filaments.
Each layer also sticks to itself and the print bed, which makes the whole process more efficient. Unlike other filament brands, Hatchbox does not require a heated print bed. That is very helpful, especially when PLA is so sensitive to heat and has such a low melting temperature.
For experienced users of 3D printers, they will be pleased with the high cylindrical tolerance that the Hatchbox PLA filament spools have to offer. For the uninitiated, that leads to less jamming in the guts of the 3D printing machine than you might notice with other filament brands.
A: Hatchbox filament is compatible with any printer that has an open filament system and accepts either 1.75mm or 3mm filament. Be sure you select the correct diameter of filament for your printer! Q: Why has my filament become brittle?
PLA, or Polylactic Acid, is a commonly used thermoplastic material that does not require the use of a heated print bed. Blending a mixture of plant-based materials and polymers creates HATHCHBOX 3D Printer's PLA, making this material more Nature-friendly.
The filaments are universally designed and compatible with 3D Printers using 1.75mm diameter filament, with a dimensional accuracy of +/- 0.03mm. PLA, or Polylactic Acid, is a commonly used thermoplastic material that does not require the use of a heated print bed.
Because of the lower melting temperatures and lack of warping, PLA filaments retain their color vibrancy and are a common choice for displays or small household prints. The 3D printed object will have a glossy type finish with PLA. Why we love it: Less warping / Easy to use / No heated bed required / Nature-friendly.
