Remove the thermostat and take out the 2 AAA batteries from it. Now, place the battery in the wrong way, place negative to the positive side and positive to the negative side. Leave the batteries at this position for 5-10 seconds and remove it out. Place the battery in correct order. The display will get TURN ON.

If you have an RTH7500, to remove the “Permanent Hold” all you have to do is hit the “use schedule” button to get it out of hold. Hope this helps! I bought a new heat pump about 4 years ago and installed a Venstar Thermostat. It is the best one that I ever had, and I paid about $170 for it.
