The most basic way to wire marine speakers to an amplifier is to connect one speaker to each of the available channels. But there are other options to consider. Most external amplifiers can power more than one speaker per channel. For example, a 4 channel amplifier may be able to power up to 8 speakers.
Beyond a head unit and speakers, you can add features like amplifiers, subwoofers, tower speakers, remote controls, SiriusXM and speakers with LEDs to create a rockin' audio/visual experience. Yet many of today’s aftermarket installations prove less ambitious, consisting of a source unit, control/display and four marine speakers.
If you have a smaller boat, or just don't want a massive sound system, a 2-channel amplifier is a practical solution if you only want to power a single pair of speakers. But if you think you might want to add another set of speakers in the future, get a 4-channel amp now, so you'll be ready when the time comes.
Instead of only needing 3' for ground wire, on a boat you need your ground wire to be the same length as your power wire. In addition to the length, the power wire for marine amp wiring kits needs to be tinned to resist corrosion. Most power wire for cars is not tinned and instead it is just copper.
Connect the ground wire to the ground terminal on the amp and run the other end to a piece of metal to ground the amp. You can use a screw or bolt to ground the amp. Connect the amp to your marine stereo through the preamp inputs in the head unit. You will need speaker wire to connect speakers and/or subwoofers.
The amplifier is the power source to your boat audio system. The amplifier modulates power generated from the boat battery. We recommend using marine amplifiers because they are specially designed to withstand exposure to water and the sun.
You may also need one or more of the following: Screwdrivers (Flat, Phillips) and Screws, Drill, Pliers, Knife, Flashlight, Saw, Soldering Gun Mount the amplifier on a board somewhere out of the way.
