For ICELAND specifically, since manual cars give the driver greater control over the vehicle, they could be argued to be better suited to ICELANDic weather and roads. Pretty much no manual is unless it's a product that has ICELAND as a core market (which isn't very usual for foreign products). What languages do appear will just be dependent on the manufacturer in question, but it's usually going to be a collection of the most spoken languages in the world, and an assortment of random languages that the manufacturer can financially justify buying translation services for.

The early settlement, made up primarily of Norwegian seafarers and adventurers, fostered further excursions to Greenland and the coast of North America (which the Norse called Vinland). Despite its physical isolation some 500 miles (800 km) from …

I just returned from a trip thru ICELAND (short stay 2 days) and as most rental places in ICELAND only offer manual transmission, I thought I'd post this.. I booked the car at Hertz, and it was a Toyota Corolla, one step up from the cheapest car.The booking said it was a manual transmission, which is fine for me, but I know many people cannot drive such a car.

8 years ago. Save. Looking to travel to ICELAND next year. I've read that renting cars in Europe with an automatic transmission is expensive and sometimes impossible. Wondering if anyone can suggest companies to get good rates with vehicles that have automatic transmissions, or if I should start learning how to drive a standard vehicle now.

The assigned number is the key to all of life’s doors in ICELAND. You need one to get a job, open a bank account, or rent a place to live. Now EEA/EFTA citizens (aka Europeans) can register for a short term stay right after arriving.
If you plan to drive around ICELAND during the wintertime, drive on the F-roads in ICELAND, or on gravel roads in ICELAND, then we recommend a 4x4 vehicle. When planning a visit to ICELAND it is important to understand the roads and conditions before traveling. Many travelers underestimate ICELAND and do not prepare for their trip to ICELAND.
Luckily if you’re from the United States, driving in ICELAND will feel familiar because you drive on the RIGHT side of the road and overtake on the LEFT — just like home. The steering wheel is on the same side too! No, you do not need an international driver’s license to drive in ICELAND or rent a car there.
The same goes for the ash and ice in high winds. Those act exactly like rocks and can damage your car in no time. Most ICELANDic car rental companies give you the option to purchase insurance in their online form, BUT I recommend doing the following: Check if your personal vehicle insurance covers car rentals.
Several of the car rental companies at Keflavik Airport also have car rental offices at the nearby Reykjavic Airport. Keflavik Airport is ca. 50 km or 31 miles distance from Reykjavik, ICELAND's capital, and only 3.1 km or 2 miles west of Keflavik city.
TYPE OF ACTIVITY: RECOMMENDED CAR: you have a choice and one choice only: you need a car that can reach the ICELANDic F-roads (a type of road I will describe later). Your choice should be a 4×4 (an all-wheel drive). It is not allowed to bring any other type of car on these F-roads, and for good reason.
Let’s see: ICELAND has no trains, buses are almost non-existent, hitchhiking (although possible) can be frustrating as there are not that many empty cars passing by. Thus, there is no better way to explore this 100,000 square km island (40,000 square miles) than by car!
