Look at the back side of the Insignia TV. There is one audio output located towards the bottom of all the connection ports. Plug the red and white audio RCA cables into the audio out ports. Make sure the appropriate colors of the cables are connected to the same colors of the ports.
Connect the cable television cable or an antenna cable into the appropriate television port on the rear of the unit. Press the "TV Menu" button on the remote control. Press one of the sideways arrow buttons to open the "Tuning" icon.
In general, the higher you place your antenna, the better. It would be best to have your antenna placed 30 feet above ground level to give you the clearest over-the-air connection with a tower. For those looking for that height, outdoor antennas are usually a good place to start.
Even if you use a digital-to-analog converter box, you will still need to use an antenna to receive DTV signals. Digital-to-analog converter boxes do not contain additional antennas or signal amplification. The antennas shown below will work for the indicated signal strength in most instances, but may not work in all cases.
Place heat-shrink tubing over the tips of the ears and use a flame or heat gun to shrink it tight to the wires. Use coaxial cable to connect a digital-signal-ready television or converter box to the transformer. Switch on your TV, orient the antenna, and enjoy the show.
Adjust HDTV Settings. After positioning the antenna, set up the antenna to work with the HDTV. To do so, simply power on the HD television and choose the antenna setting from the TV menu. Specific directions for navigating to the antenna setting vary depending on the brand of HDTV.
However, you will still need an antenna regardless of whether you have a TV with a digital tuner or have purchased the DTV converter box. Whether or not you need a SMART antenna may depend on your locality to TV signal stations. In many cases, a standard digital antenna will work (RCA, Apex, or Terk are popular brands).
