Each of the above instruction has a byte, word, and doubleword version, and string instructions can be repeated by using a repetition prefix. These instructions use the ES:DI and DS:SI pair of registers, where DI and SI registers contain valid offset addresses that refers to bytes stored in memory.
The assembler places the opcode to the memory location 0 when the ORG directive is used, while END indicates to the end of the source code. A program language instruction consists of the following four fields − A square bracket ( [ ] ) indicates that the field is optional. The label field allows the program to refer to a line of code by name.
Procedures or subroutines are very important in assembly language, as the assembly language programs tend to be large in size. Procedures are identified by a name. Following this name, the body of the procedure is described which performs a well-defined job. End of the procedure is indicated by a return statement.
