Aug 26, 2016 . Janszen is a relatively new venture, leveraging the family knowledge of electrostatic design to create something quite unlike anything else on the market. Yes, there exist other hybrid electrostatic speakers, but one look at any MartinLogan speaker compared to a Janszen will dispel any notion of similarity. The Janszens are unique in offering sealed …

JansZen zA2.1 Loudspeaker - Page 2 of 2 - The Absolute Sound

The Janszens will play loudly (well over 100dB) and cleanly at high volumes. These are not dynamically limited speakers as far as sensible use in rooms of domestic size. And they are very linear in dynamic behavior. But their perceived dynamic behavior is unusual precisely because there is no rising “cringe factor” as levels go up.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How much does a Janszen speaker cost?

That speaker? The Janszen Valentina Active (starting at $10,995 and formerly known as the zA2.1A-HP).

  • What is a Janszen?

It’s a hybrid electrostatic-dynamic design which draws on the rich heritage invoked by the Janszen name, and not in some tacky, derivative way – see power tools “made by” Kawasaki, cars from Suzuki (aka rebranded Daewoo), and the Hasselblad HV camera (rebadged Sony) for examples of that type of thing. No, Janszen is the real deal.

  • What makes Janszen different from other electrostatic panels?

The Janszens are unique in offering sealed enclosures, with moderate-sized electrostatic panels flanked vertically by high-excursion dynamic drivers, all in a handsome enclosure that won’t dominate a room. Unlike pretty much every e-stat I’ve ever encountered, Janszen does not use a dipole design.

  • How far apart should the janszens be placed?

My first experience with the Janszens involved a somewhat large room, with the speakers placed at least several feet away from all boundaries and approximately 8 feet from one another. With zero optimization, just throwing the speakers in place with a slight toe-in, the resulting sound was… jaw-dropping.

  • Why choose Janszen audio?

All modern Janszen Audio products extend the technology of David Janszen's father, Arthur A. Janszen, inventor of the first practical electrostatic transducer in the early 1950's. For the last 15 years, David has been at the helm, developing new designs and making them available to discerning music lovers worldwide.

  • Why Janszen electrostatics?

It's a tall order, but Janszen, being the company that invented and brought to market the first practical electrostatics in the 1950's, has a leg up on all that. Our compact, closed-back (non-dipole) designs disprove every criticism of electrostatics we've ever heard.

  • Why buy a pair of janszens?

As many satisfied music lovers have discovered, a pair of Janszens can fulfill your quest for musical authenticity and consistent enjoyment, and still satisfy the general preferences of the rest of your household.

  • Is the Janszen Valentina worth the money?

The Janszen active Valentinas were shockingly good and with built in DAC and built-in biamped 500watts of Hypex Class D (which I thought I would hate...) nothing came close at $12,750... again for the whole system. It's unbelievable. I listened to many many rooms before coming to that conclusion.
