Now uprated to ‘Series 2’ status, JEFF ROWLAND’s Model 625 power amplifier has also seen its paper specification ‘tweaked’ from 300W to 325W/8ohm and 550W to 600W/4ohm while the overall gain is reduced from 27dB to 26dB.
As with all amplifiers from the Colorado- based boutique brand, the chassis is a work of art, sporting JEFF ROWLAND’s optically wavy front panel which is precision- machined using a diamond-tipped cutter.

The Capri S2 features an impressive complement of standard input/output interfaces; greatly enhanced flexibility through its optional DAC card or phono option; and the Rowland trademark prismatic platinum faceplate beautifully integrated into a non-resonant chassis milled from a solid block of aluminum.
The JEFF ROWLAND Design Group, in the few years that they have been internationally visible in the audio high-end, have become solidly entrenched as one of the industry's heavyweights. But their Model 1 amplifier is almost petite, a significant departure from their flagship—the three-men-and-a- (husky)-boy-required-to-lift monoblock Model 7.
The design concepts and circuit topologies of the Model 1 are similar to those of Rowland's higher-powered amplifiers. The smaller physical size and reduced power-supply capacity—reflected in the more modest power output—are the only significant differences.
Moving on, the JEFF ROWLAND Design Group Continuum S2 integrated amplifier is beautifully made and unusual. The first part is a given—we’ve all seen those gorgeous faceplates with the undulating and hypnotic patterns buffed into the solid blocks of aircraft-grade aluminum. (Did you know JDRG refers to the faceplate as the “console”? I like that.)
The JEFF ROWLAND Design Group Continuum S2 integrated amplifier is not a new product, but it does sport a new feature—the HP Phono card. When JRDG’s Lucien Pichette approached me to possibly review the latest Continuum, that was the selling point. Or, as Lucien explained: “It’s the closest you can get to the Conductor without being the Conductor.”
