6-3 Drilling Equipment The drilling auger is the most commonly used drilling tool for drilling holes for CIDH piles. Augers may be used in a variety of soil and rock types and conditions. There are two basic varieties of augers–the standard short section (Figure 6-1) and continuous flight (Figure 6-2).
