  • What is a jig design?

    Jig Design. A jig is defined as a manufacturing aid that guides a tool. The term “jig” applies to a device used to guide a cutting tools (usually a drill or reamer). The term “fixture” applies to a device used to hold a workpiece, such as a welding fixture. This section covers the design of drill jigs and reamer jigs.

  • What are the requirements of a successful jig design?

    One of the most important requirements of a successful jig design is that when workpiece is machined and removed from the jig, the operator should be able to put another workpiece quickly into jig, clamp it and machine it to the dimensions with given tolerance.

  • How to choose the right jig?

    The main frame of jig must be strong enough so that the deflection of jig is as minimum as possible. This deflection of jig is caused due to the forces of cutting, clamping of the workpiece or clamping to the machine table. The mainframe of the jig should have the mass to prevent vibration and chatter.

  • What are the different types of jigs?

    There are a variety of open jigs: Box-type jigs enclose the workpiece, and typically allow operations to be performed from multiple sides of the workpiece. A jig is defined as a manufacturing aid that guides a tool. The term “jig” applies to a device used to guide a cutting tools (usually a drill or reamer).
