There are a few reasons for jumping behind the wheel of a Karmann Ghia. There is no mistaking the aesthetic beauty of the body, styled by Ghia of Turin (so the guess at Italian, wasn’t too far off!)
Fitted with a 65hp, 1600cc engine, the TC was the fastest of all Volkswagen Karmann Ghia's. Surprisingly, the Karmann Ghia was the first car to be pulled by Volkswagen, production ceased in 1974 to make room for the Porsche 914 and the Volkswagen Scirocco.
In total, Volkswagen's German factory built 445,238 Karmann Ghias. The Karmann Ghia could arguably have continued in production for several more years before Volkswagen pulled the plug on it. However, the German manufacturer needed to make room in its factories for the Scirocco coupe production, so the Ghia got the boot.

In the early 1950s, Volkswagen was producing its Volkswagen Beetle, and as postwar standards of living increased, executives at Volkswagen were at least receptive to adding a halo model to its range, if not proactive.
