Go KART Engines Another major difference you’ll find is the engine. Smaller street carts usually have a much smaller engine in the 2.5 to 10 Horsepower range. While, on the other hand, an off-road go KART can be found with engines as large as 1200 cc. In fact, you’ve probably seen those large shiny engines on a go KART a time or two.

The engine size depends on how large and powerful you want the cross KART to be. Most KART cross engines are between 600 and 1000 cc. Use a dirt bike engine because they are designed for high performance driving and are durable. Select a transmission and drive train. The transmission should be a six-speed sequential transmission.
125cc Tag KARTing Class This class also covers drivers between ages 12 and 15 and allows for adults above 15 years. It is the most competitive of all the classes, and it offers so much fun to drivers with varying experience levels. This class runs the 125cc 2-stroke engine, and speeds can hit up to70 and 80 mph.

If you buy used you may find a quality frame for as little as $750 USD. However, new you are looking at easily $1500 to $5000 USD depending on how complete they are and whether it comes with wheels and an engine. My advice when looking for a racing go KART chassis is to shop around and ask local racers.
