KAS uses a widget-first design: widgets are persistent and retain state; data must be pushed into widgets. Many modern UIs are data-first: widgets are built per-frame over a single persistent data object. There are significant trade-offs of a widget-first design: KAS requires a recent [Rust] compiler. Currently, version 1.56 or greater is required.
Machine: 5800X, Fedora 34, SSD. KAS uses WGPU for rendering, which targets Vulkan and OpenGL on Linux and Android, Vulkan, DX12 and DX11 on Windows, and finally Metal on MacOS and iOS. This should satisfy most devices, albeit support may be incomplete (refer to WGPU documentation).

Instead KAS is using a project configuration file and does the download and configuration phase. Key features provided by the build tool: create default bitbake settings (machine, arch, …) See the KAS documentation for further details. Download the file for your platform. This plugin implements the KAS menu command. When this command is executed, KAS will open a configuration menu as described by a Kconfig file. It processes any pre-existing configuration file with saved settings, stores the final selections and invokes the build plugin if requested by the user.
Alternatively, experienced bitbake users can invoke usual bitbake steps manually, e.g.: KAS will place downloads and build artifacts under the current directory when being invoked. You can specify a different location via the environment variable KAS_WORK_DIR. Interactive configuration: KAS sub-commands are implemented by a series of plugins.
