Jan 31, 2008 . I received my Katz Eye Focusing screen with optibrite treatment installed on my Nikon D200 last week. My results are mixed. I elected to have the screen installed by Katz Eye Optics. I did that because they stated that they will confirm that the focusing screen in properly adjusted for manual focus (my D200 native screen was a little off).

Katz Eye Optics made the best custom focusing screens. Their main attraction was a through the viewfinder, split-prism focusing spot to enable precision visual focusing. Unfortunately, a few years ago they quit the business due to increasing costs. I had this one for my Pentax K-3, but now have the K-1, which this does not fit.

Feb 12, 2007 . It just fails to reach the eye. Split-prisms work best with fast lenses. This is why the Katz-Eye screen also has a microprism focusing ring surrounding the split prism. Between the split-prism and microprism focusing elements, we have noticed no focusing problems down to f/6.3. Manual focus accuracy is phenomenal.

Apr 22, 2016 . I was one of the last to place an order for a Katzeye screen for my D7000. I couldn't imagine using a camera without some manual focusing aids. Course, I have been a diehard film camera user and only just bought a used D7000 last year. I'm so use to manual focus - I focus where I want and the camera complies.

Umm, Katz Eye Optics is a company name, they probably wouldn't appreciate the term "cats eye screen" applied to a generic cheap focusing screen (theirs is a lot more expensive, but they claim it doesn't lose split-prism functionality so soon when the lens is stopped down). =) Anyhow, they had the A700 screen visible in their web-store for a while and now it's gone again.

Jul 14, 2016 . Manual focus can be improved with a Katz Eye Optics Olympus DSLR split-rangefinder focus screens (depending on exact camera model, approx. $US $100). The camera bodies are light and the shutter button recessed enough that camera shake is a real issue.
