Light exposure in the evening, at night and in the morning affected the circadian phase of melatonin levels. In addition, even the longest wavelengths (631 nm, red) and intermittent light exposures induced circadian resetting responses, and exposure to low light levels (5-10 lux) at night when sleeping with eyes closed induced a circadian response.
Feature L03, Circadian Lighting Design, is in place to provide users with appropriate light exposure to enhance circadian rhythms. In order to obtain points for this feature, all regularly occupied spaces in the project must have lighting that achieves a minimum of 120 EML (equivalent melanopic lux).
Research has indicated that light affects both our visual and non-visual systems and that electric light can impact circadian rhythm. Circadian lighting is the concept that electric light can be used to support human health by minimizing the effect of electric light on the human circadian rhythm.
After Lutron acquired Ketra in 2018, the two companies worked together to meld Lutron reliability with Ketra’s circadian smarts.
