The main assembly of the Lacis is completely enclosed in a plastic housing while the Stanwood's gears are all exposed. The mounting foot on the Lacis is one about 1x2 inches while the Stanwood's is a welded washer that is about 2 1/2 inches in diameter. The ball of yarn created by the Lacis was adequate but on the Stanwood it was much cleaner.
