There is only one level of licensure in New Mexico which is known as the Licensed Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor (LADAC). The requirements depend on the level of educational attainment you possess, as well as training and supervised experience. Are you interested to learn about Addiction and Substance Counseling?
LADAC Coursework We offer 18.5 college credits of coursework which provide all of the academic requirements to become a LADAC. Classes are designed for students who want state-of-the-art knowledge and hands-on skills. Click to Expand List of Courses
A LADC I, or A Clinician who has: a master’s degree in one of the following disciplines or a closely related field: clinical psychology, education-counseling, medicine, psychology, psychiatric nursing, rehabilitative counseling, social work, and who has a minimum of one year of supervised substance abuse counseling experience; or
In the substance abuse area, a drug and alcohol counseling certificate recognizes you have the skills and competencies necessary to treat clients. Substance abuse counseling certification requirements vary from state to state, but most will include a mix of coursework and hands-on experience.

Provisional Alcohol and Drug Counselor: a person working towards full Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor status. He or she is working to obtain the required 6,000 hours of supervised paid clinical work experience in alcohol and drug counseling. 12 Core Functions and 46 Global Criteria - these further define the practice areas.
