The LADAC however must take and pass the NCAC I exam administered by the National Association for Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors ( NAADAC ). The exam fee is $160. The applicant will have a total of 3 hours to complete the 150 questions.
Designation as a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) or Certified Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselor (CADAC) is increasingly required by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, Bureau of Substance Abuse Services, for persons working in the addictions treatment field.

In the substance abuse area, a drug and alcohol counseling certificate recognizes you have the skills and competencies necessary to treat clients. Substance abuse counseling certification requirements vary from state to state, but most will include a mix of coursework and hands-on experience.

He or she is working to obtain the required 6,000 hours of supervised paid clinical work experience in alcohol and drug counseling. 12 Core Functions and 46 Global Criteria - these further define the practice areas.
