When set up in the stepladder configuration, Articulated Ladders range in size from 3 to 15 feet maximum. When set up as a Single or Extension Ladder, Articulated Ladders may have a length of no more than 30 feet.
There's no hard and fast rule saying how wide a ladder must be, so width measurements vary from one product to the next. A typical extension ladder is between 350mm and 500mm wide; step ladders tend to be a little wider, ranging from approximately 400mm to 800mm depending on the product's height.
They should be ¼ inch wide and 4 inches long. This will provide adequate support and strength. They also need to be countersunk into the sides so that the edges remain smooth and the heads can't injure someone in the event of an accident.
The example below shows a ladder diagram with pushbuttons (PB), control relays (CR), a motor (M) and a light (L). Ladder logic was designed to have the same look and feel as electrical ladder diagrams, but with ladder logic, the physical contacts and coils are replaced with memory bits.
The size of a Combination Ladder, when used in the Stepladder configuration, ranges from 4 feet to a maximum of 10 feet, as measured along the front side rail from the bottom of the foot to the top of the top cap or to the top of the top step when no top cap is used. The maximum Extension Ladder length is marked on the identification label.
The size of an Articulated Ladder is determined when it is set up in the stepladder configuration by measuring along the front side rail from the bottom to the center of the hinge at the top of the ladder. When set up in the stepladder configuration, Articulated Ladders range in size from 3 to 15 feet maximum.
