Laeq is a contraction of Laser Equipment. It is pronounced ‘lake’, but it wouldn’t surprise us if in your excitement for PBM you quickly turn it into ‘like’. PBM is a form of laser therapy that is used internationally and has been described as very effective in leading medical journals.
LAeq is not always a straight line. If the LAeq is recorded over time-i.e. plotted as the equivalent from the beginning of the graph to each of the measurement points-the plot looks like this.

Most community and industrial noise measurements are A-weighted so the LAeq descriptor is widely used. Early sound level meters had a very limited dynamic range, so if the sound levels fluctuated by more then 20 dB during a measurement, the accuracy was in doubt.
