Noise - Terms - Energy Averaging [LAeq] When dealing with a new or proposed noise LAeq is often used [also written dBA Leq]; this term is the Equivalent Continuous Level . The formal definition is " when a noise varies over time, the Leq is the equivalent continuous sound which would contain the same sound energy as the time varying sound".
Laeq is a contraction of Laser Equipment. It is pronounced ‘lake’, but it wouldn’t surprise us if in your excitement for PBM you quickly turn it into ‘like’. PBM is a form of laser therapy that is used internationally and has been described as very effective in leading medical journals.
LAeq is not always a straight line. If the LAeq is recorded over time-i.e. plotted as the equivalent from the beginning of the graph to each of the measurement points-the plot looks like this.
When dealing with a new or proposed noise LAeq is often used [also written dBA Leq]; this term is the Equivalent Continuous Level. The formal definition is "when a noise varies over time, the Leq is the equivalent continuous sound which would contain the same sound energy as the time varying sound".
What are LAeq and LAFmax? LAeq and LAFmax are a couple of the many labels used to describe sound and noise level values. Here is a basic explanation of the most commonly-used of these labels in audio and acoustic measurement. As an example we’ll look at the label LAFmax
This means it is approximated to how the human ear would react to the sound/noise source. LAeq – The a-weighted, equivalent noise level of a sound source, this is like the ‘average’ noise level a person is exposed to. Generally this is not used for measurements, instead LAeq,T is used.
