How much lamictal? RubyShooz. My doc started me on lamictal, with 25mg/day and gradually working up. I'm now on 50 mg/day and tomorrow will go to 100mg, then a week later to my maintenance dose of 200mg/day. That seems like an awfully high dose to me. I'm feeling a lot better now on just the 50 mg -- why do I need to keep upping the dose?

It is available as a tablet, an extended-release tablet, a chewable dispersible, and as an orally disintegrating tablet. Lamictal is the first U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved therapy for bipolar disorder since lithium. It was approved to treat seizures in 1994, and the FDA authorized it as a bipolar medication in 2003.
The recommended maintenance dose of LAMICTAL as monotherapy is 500 mg/day given in 2 divided doses. To avoid an increased risk of rash, the recommended initial dose and subsequent dose escalations for LAMICTAL should not be exceeded [see Boxed Warning].
Treatment with LAMICTAL is introduced, based on concurrent medications, according to the regimen outlined in Table 5. If other psychotropic medications are withdrawn following stabilization, the dose of LAMICTAL should be adjusted.
Lamictal ( lamotrigine) and Depakote (divalproex sodium) are antiepileptic drugs (AEDs), also called anticonvulsants, used alone or in combination with other antiseizure medications for treating certain types of seizures. Depakote ( divalproex sodium) is also used to treat manic episodes associated with bipolar disorder, and migraine headaches.
You should not take Lamictal if you are allergic to lamotrigine. Lamictal may cause a severe or life-threatening skin rash, especially in children and in people who take a very high starting dose, or those who also take valproic acid (Depakene) or divalproex (Depakote). Tell your doctor if you have ever had:
Yes that would be enough time for the potential of withdrawal symptoms to occur and also the potential for what the Lamictal is treating to return as well especially if it was stopped abruptly even if was started again a week later. I know from being on Lamictal myself in the past.
