Prior to installation of the landing gear, correctly size the legs to the trailer. It is recommended to have 12" (305 mm) minimum ground clearance when the landing gear is fully retracted. Ensure that the legs have sufficient travel to raise the trailer from the fifth wheel a minimum of 1" (25 mm), preferably 3" (76 mm) without over-extension.

Pull the landing gear motor circuit breaker and manually retract the landing gear no more than halfway, 20 turns of the crank clockwise. Note: Retracting the landing gear fully using the manual handcrank may damage the tangs on the worm gear shaft.
Record the re- sults of all three landing gear and com- pare them to the tolerances listed by model in the maintenance manual. Note: keep push-pull force gauge approx. 90 degrees to lift leg when performing this check.
Lubricate at least every 3 months and more frequently in applications where the landing gear are exposed to excessive moisture (liquid salt water spray), dust, or if they are not used for extended periods. Lubricate with the trailer securely coupled to a tractor (see Coupling Procedures on Page 2).

Assuming the design works properly, documentation and production engineering is next. Mechanical drawings, notes, etc. are created and we cut a small run on our in-house Plasma Cutter. Assuming the parts work perfectly after this small run, we are able to document an installation method and write an Install Manual.
