T-Mobile is buying Layer3, a cable TV service that doesn't need to install any cables in your home, just use the internet you already have.
T-Mobile announced it’s planning to launch its own streaming TV service next year, but it’s not going about the task alone. The company is acquiring Layer3 TV to help build the service, catapulting the relatively small cable company into the national spotlight. Layer3 TV isn’t the most well-known cable company.
That is, you can assign an IP address directly on the routed port. Moreover, you can configure also a Switch Virtual Interface ( SVI) with the “ interface vlan ” command which acts as a virtual layer 3 interface on the Layer3 switch. The above feature means that you can implement Layer 3 functionality in your network without using a regular router.
According to an interview with Wired last year, Layer3 is also better at transmitting HD video than most other services. Its CEO Jeff Binder claims that the company can send HD video at a bandwidth of less than 4 megabits per second.
